Ceramic Coating

Is a Ceramic Coating Right For You?

  • If you enjoy washing your car weekly and want to save time, a ceramic coating would be perfect for you.

  •  I wouldn't recommend a ceramic coating if you frequently use an automatic car wash or a car wash where employees earn minimum wage. Such washes can be harsh on your vehicle; high water pressure, dirty mitts, and strong chemicals can all cause damage. Additionally, workers are likely to use the same mitt for both rims and body, leading to scratches from brake dust.

  • Keeping your car outdoors for extended periods, a ceramic coating may be beneficial. Note: Most manufacturers design new cars to last at least seven years before issues arise.

  • Important update - we are seeing an increase in cars (2018 and up) where manufacturers are using less paint and clearcoat. In Australia, this is leading to faster-than-normal paint failures. I would strongly recommend looking to see if your car is one of these cars. What to look for is several complaints or people complaining about paint thickness, paint peel, or going white (oxidation) too quickly. If there are complaints about the car's paint thickness then a ceramic coating might be the best option for you.  Note: There is a lot to discuss regarding this newer issue. The best recommendation I can give is for you to come visit us so I can explain the new changes and how they might affect your car. I truly, want to make sure you're informed; even if you decide not to use us.

Ceramic coatings are expensive because we have to spend hours polishing your car to an acceptable standard. Then we encase the body in the ceramic coating. Ceramic coatings will not stop rock chips or deep scratches (they can reduce the impact). Ceramic Coatings are designed to reduce the impacts of scratches from poor car washing techniques and making it easier to wash a car. The hydrophobic properties of a coating reduce traffic film/road grim/oils from the road for adhering to your vehicle.

I have seen ceramic coatings prevent a car from being scratched after being keyed but that was a combination of a good ceramic coating and hard paint. Mature detailers will be realistic about the limits of a ceramic coating and will always be proud when the coating goes above and beyond.

Two Additional Facts

Premium ceramic coatings will add additional gloss. This gloss is noticeable on darker cars (blue, red, black, and some yellows). To non-detailers, white cars do not have a visual difference, BUT they will feel insanely slick/almost oily to the touch. To me, it's the best feeling in the world.

Ceramic coatings offer UV protection and when installed by us or an accredited professional they come with a warranty/guarantee and can offer insuranceable value to your car. Typically what is covered is up to  $1,500 for ceramic coating failure or in the event of a wreck a no-cost installation of a ceramic coating to damaged panels. Please note the latter point is a matter you will need to take up with your insurance company.
